Liverpool and Napoli have offers rejected by Torino for Dutch defender Perr Schuurs

Torino have rejected offers from Liverpool and Napoli for Perr Schuurs, according to Tuttosport. The 23-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from several top European sides, but Torino reportedly want €40m for the Dutchman. Napoli had a €25m bid turned down and Liverpool are said to have had a €30m bid rejected.

Perr Schuurs, who previously played for Ajax, impressed during his first season at Torino. Last season he featured 30 times in Serie A as Torino finished in 10th position. Perr Schuurs is a right-footed centre-back who stands at 6ft 3in tall. The former Netherlands U21 international is excellent in the air and averages 1.7 tackles per game in Italy.

Schuurs kicked off his career in the Netherlands with Fortuna Sittard. He played 60 times for Fortuna, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists within those games. A move to Ajax followed in 2018, and the defender went on to win three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and one Dutch Super Cup, all before the age of 23.

The Dutchman could be an excellent signing for Liverpool, but he’ll have to compete for a starting spot seeing as The Reds have the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all occupying the centre-back position. Also on Tuesday it was reported that Feyenoord are showing strong interest in Liverpool’s Nat Phillips. If that move was to go through, it could free up another spot in the squad for Perr Schuurs.

Napoli won last season’s Serie A and will be playing Champions League football next season. They’re set to lose their star centre-back Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich, so, a starting spot could be available for Schuurs. Both Liverpool and Napoli will need to meet Torino’s €40m asking price before any progress can be made.
