Leicester City loanee Nathaniel Opoku stars as OH Leuven hammer KV Mechelen

On loan Ghana striker Nathaniel Opoku put in a man of the match display as OH Leuven hammered KV Mechelen 4-1. The 21-year-old Leicester City forward scored the second goal of the game and provided an assist for Musa Al-Taaamari as the Jordanian international made it 4-0. This was just the striker’s second start for the side since joining on loan from Leicester in January.

Neither side has anything left to play for, with OH Leuven out of the race for play off football and KV Mechelen already safe. Malinwa appear to be holding back in preparation for the cup-final against Antwerp at the end of the month. Since beating Zulte Waregem, the side managed by Steven Defour has only won once in five games. In that period they have scored three times and conceded 14 goals, including five against their final opponents.

For Leuven, despite a strong start to the season the side began to falter just before the World Cup break. In the past few weeks they have begun to rediscover some of that form, but back to back defeats to Anderlecht and Genk put an end to any lingering hopes of play-off football.
