Leeds United and Southampton battling for Burnley winger

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Manuel Benson seems to be the focus of a transfer battle between Championship sides Leeds United and Southampton. The former Antwerp winger, who has only made four Premier League appearances this season, is reported to be keen on a move back to the second tier of English football. Last season he was one of sides stars in their rise back to the top flight, with 11 goals and three assists in 33 matches, with only 14 of these being starts.

Prior to leaving Belgium, Benson had bounced around a number of clubs on loan, such as Mouscron and PEC Zwolle. It was during the 2021/2022 season at Antwerp that he appeared to come through on the promise he had shown as a young player with both Lierse and Genk. In 34 games during that campaign he scored five goals and provided six assists.

Tavolieri is reporting that Leeds see the 26-year-old as a replacement for Wilfried Gnonto, with the Italian looking set to join West Ham this winter.
