In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Laurent Depoitre said he is confident that Gent will be able to get a result against Djurgården in Stockholm on Thursday. The experienced striker said “We have another difficult job on Thursday, but last weeks defeat means we are obliged to get something in Stockholm. I’m confident we can handle them”.
Depoitre made his 150th appearance for Gent on the weekend, in which he grabbed a goal during a convincing 4-0 victory over Eupen. This win saw last seasons cup winners climb to 8th in the table as they ended a run of two consecutive domestic defeats.
In the Europa Conference League, Gent’s loss to Djurgården means they sit in third place, level on points with Malmo and three points behind the Stockholm based side. Last season Gent managed to get through to the last 16, where they lost over two legs against Greek side PAOK.
