Late Damien Marcq winner puts Zulte Waregem on the brink of relegation

Damien Marcq came up with an injury time winner for Charleroi against his former side to push them to the brink of relegation. The 34-year-old Frenchman’s late strike secured a 3-2 win for play-off chasing Charleroi, who had gone 1-0 down to Zulte Waregem.

After Eupen and Kortrijk’s draw, Zulte Waregem knew a win would put them just a point behind the pandas, with a chance to overtake them when they played each other next week. Now the side know that anything less than a win against Eupen will see them relegated, while even a win is no guarantee of survival. They will face another play-off chasing side to finish the season when they host Cercle Brugge. Eupen’s final game of the season is against defending champions Club Brugge, another side that need to win in order to have a chance of finishing in the top four.

For Charleroi, the three points means they are in the final play-off spot going into the last rounds of matches. Their final two games are against Standard Liege and Genk.
