LASK v Union St Gilloise Preview | Union can all but guarantee 2024 European football with win in Austria

After their late dramatic win over LASK in Brussels, Union St Gilloise have put themselves in the driving seat for qualifying for some sort of European football in the new year. The side currently sit second in their Europa League group behind Liverpool, level on points with Toulouse in third but ahead on goal difference. Liverpool are running away with the group having won three out of three. LASK are currently bottom on 0 points, meaning that a win for Union would extend their lead over the Austrians to seven points.

Union will be hoping that Liverpool can hand Toulouse another defeat, allowing the Belgian side to open up a gap to the Ligue 1 side. Alexander Blessin’s side should certainly be confident of getting a positive result in Austria. They have won everything single one of their previous six games, with their most recent win being over Club Brugge at the weekend.

LASK are also coming into the game following a weekend win. They beat then league leaders Sturm Graz 3-1 at the weekend, with goals from Moses Usor, Filip Stojkovic and Robert Zulj. The latter provided an assist for the other two goals, while also missing a penalty just before half-time.

The Austrian side will have to be wary of Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura. The diminutive striker has scored five goals in his previous five games, including a brace over Club Brugge at the weekend. 23-year-old Amoura has scored an impressive nine goals in 12 games since joining Union from Lugano in the summer.
