Senne Lammens can hardly believe heโs a Manchester United player. The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper is determined to help the club get back to where they want to be.
Antwerpโs technical director, Marc Overmars, let Lammens leave for Manchester United for a record fee of โฌ21million (ยฃ18.2m) plus โฌ4m in add-ons. There, the stopper will compete with Andrรฉ Onana and Altay Bayindir.
โBeing here now is almost surreal,โ said Lammens, who becomes the first Belgian to wear the Mancuniansโ shirt since Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan in 2019. โYou feel the grandeur. When I was about five, Manchester United were at the absolute top. You carry that feeling with you, and now Iโm hereโฆ itโs almost surreal.โ
โThere were guys in my squad who played football in England. When I said I could move to Manchester United, you could see their expressions immediately change. Just the name of the club, the aura surrounding it.
โI want to grow with this team. And bring the club back to a level where we can compete for the title and Champions League football again. To the level Manchester United once stood for.โ
