KV Oostende capitulate against the Canaries as relegation beckons

In a game where against a side with nothing to play for, KV Oostende crumbled as Sint-Truiden humiliated them at the Stayen. Goals from Jorge Texeira, Rocco Rietz and Olivier Dumont, as well as a brace from top scorer Gianni Bruno, saw the Canaries run out 5-0 winners. With Eupen and Kortrijk drawing, and Zulte Waregem losing late on to Charleroi, Oostende had a chance to close the gap to safety to just one point. However, their defensive frailty was on full show once again as they capitulated in dramatic fashion.

With two games to go, the side are four points from safety. Their final two games are against OH Leuven, another side whose season is over, and then away to Gent. The Buffaloes are looking to win both their remaining games to guarantee a spot in play-off one. Oostende are now reliant on results elsewhere, namely that Eupen do not pick up a win against Zulte Waregem next weekend. If the Pandas do win, both Oostende and Zulte Waregem will be joining RFC Seraing in the second tier of Belgian football.
