KV Oostende board deny financial mismanagement reports

After yesterdays reports that the club were facing the prospect of bankruptcy, with many different people going unpaid, KV Oostende have released a combative statement. In the statement, the relegation threatened club claim that the reports are incomplete and state that all clubs in Belgium are running an operational deficit.

However, fan groups have been left wondering how this has happened given the amount they have made from the sales of top players. Arthur Theate, Andrew Hjulsager and Jack Hendry netted the club around €15m in transfer fees, yet there is reports that this money was used to support AS Nancy-Lorraine, a club the American owners are also in control of. Barnsley are another of the groups clubs, alongside Danish side Esbjerg fB. Worryingly for Oostende, all those other sides have been relegated while under the American ownership umbrella.

On the pitch, Oostende are also in real danger of going down to the Challenger Pro League. They face Zulte Waregem on Sunday in a relegation six pointer.
