KV Mechelen have announced the signing of Guinea international Mory Konaté. The former Sint-Truiden midfielder has signed on a free until 2026, with an option for another year. Mechelen have been chasing Konaté for most of the summer and had to battle with other sides for his signature. As sporting director Tim Matthys said on the club website ‘Mory has also been courted by teams from countries with much more money, but he has been convinced by how much we wanted him here’.
Konaté, who has been capped eight times by the Guinean national team, has been a key player for Sint-Truiden over the past four seasons. He played 67 times for the Canaries, scoring five goals. Prior to playing in Belgium, the Guinean was on the books at Borussia Dortmund. He never made a first team appearance for the German side, but did play 23 games for the second team, scoring three times.
The ore defensive minded Konaté is certainly the profile of player that Mechelen has wanted to add this season. Malinwa have also signed Rafik Belghali, Lion Lauberbach and Daam Foulon this summer.
