Hans Kraay Jr. has revealed that Mexx Meerdink is enjoying interest from Inter Milan as well as in Spain. Speaking on VoetbalPraat, the ESPN analyst also made clear that the 22-year-old striker shouldnโt be left on the bench in Alkmaar for a whole season.
The analyst recently ran into Martijn Meerdink, Mexxโs father, and asked him about his situation. โHeโs keeping a low profile until the winter break. If he becomes a starter, heโll happily stay there, otherwise, heโll have to go somewhere for the winter break. When you have that much potential, you canโt be a second striker for a year.โ
The Alkmaar striker was previously linked with a move to French club Stade Rennais, but thatโs not the best plan, according to Kees Kwakman. โHe first needs to become the first striker at AZ and stay fit for a full season. Then he can make a great move. Iโm not saying Stade Rennais arenโt a great club, but if he becomes AZโs first striker, I think he has other plans in mind.โ
โHe just needs to stay fit for a year first, develop in training; heโll definitely play plenty of games. You see at PSV now, you need two strikers. He can definitely be an option against the lesser teams. Heโll probably get twenty or twenty-five games.โ
Finally, Kraay added that not only the top Spanish clubs are watching Meerdink in Alkmaar, but a top Italian club are also keeping an eye on his development. โAside from Barcelona, who regularly unleash their scouts on AZ, Internazionale see the same potential in Meerdink.โ
