Kortrijk have reunited with former defender Gilles Dewaele. The defender left the club back in the winter of 2022 to join Standard Liege but has decided to return to Kortrijk for the 2024/2025 season. The 28-year-old full-back has signed a deal with the Kerels until 2028. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Kortrijk are hoping to have a much more comfortable season in 2024/2025.
Dewaele joined the club from Westerlo back in 2020 and was voted the sides player of the season by the fans during his first year with the club. Overall, the defender made 52 appearances for the side, scoring three goals and grabbing three assists. During his time with Standard, the defender made 45 appearances but rarely featured during the past 2023/2024 campaign. He had been under contract in Liege until 2025 but both player and club were going to look to end their collaboration this summer.
Dewaele has also played for Cercle Brugge, the club with whom he started his career.
