KNVB finds new date for the remainder of AZ Alkmaar vs NEC Nijmegen

Despite the packed fixture list of AZ Alkmaar and NEC Nijmegen, the KNVB have been able to find a date in which the remaining minutes of the game will be played. The game between the two sides was suspended on Sunday due to striker Bas Dost collapsing on the field in the 90th minute while the away side were winning 2-1. The game will be played on Wednesday the 6th of December at 19:00, whereby there will be a remaining minute of regular time and the minimum extra time of five minutes.

The KNVB announced that the busy schedules of the two teams meant that the date in December is the earliest time the fixture can be resumed. With AZ Alkmaar competing in the Europa Conference League the team is already preoccupied with midweek games on the 9th of November vs Aston Villa and the 30th of November against Zrinjsku Mostar of Bosnia and Herzegovina. NEC Nijmegen are also preoccupied due to their first round tie vs Roda JC in the KNVB cup this evening. The international break in mid November further inhibits the ability for the game to be played out earlier, therefore the 6th of December is the earliest time the teams can meet to play the final six or so minutes.

It is unlikely that such a strange event has been seen before, fans will be allowed into the stadium to watch the final minutes of the game but it will be interesting to see what attitude is taken from the teams. Will Alkmaar try to mount a comeback in the final minutes to change the game around, or will both teams accept the result and just use the minutes to get some heat into their legs.
