Kevin Mirallas believes Brandon Mechele should have been selected over unproven Zeno Debast

Former Everton forward Kevin Mirallas has said that he believes Club Brugge’s Brandon Mechele should have made the final 26 man squad for Qatar over Anderlecht’s young star Zeno Debast. Mirallas is a pundit for LDH, where he said of Debast “He has not yet proven anything and does not belong in the selection. Brandon Mechele has already proven much more”.

During the interview, Mirallas went on to say he believes that after the tournament, the Red Devils should move on from Roberto Martinez. There have been rumours that Martinez, coach since 2016, is in line to receive a contract extension, regardless of the performances in Qatar.

The Red Devils recently called up another defender over Mechele, with former Lyon defender Jason Denayer being added to the training squad. It is believed he is there in case of an injury to Jan Vertonghen, who pulled out of a game for Anderlecht against Antwerp during the warm up due to an issue.

Belgium open their campaign against World Cup debutants Canada on the 23rd of November.
