Julian Nagelsman tells Ryan Gravenberch to ‘be better than competitors’ if he wants to play

Julian Nagelsmann has told Ryan Gravenberch to be better than his competitors if he wants to play more at Bayern Munich.

Chances have been few and far between for Gravenberch since he joined the Bundesliga champions from Ajax in the summer, and he has openly admitted to being disappointed by his start to life in Munich.

Discussing the Dutchman in the press conference for the match against Viktoria Plzen, Nagelsmann said he’s happy with the progress his player is making, but said he needs to show he’s better than the club’s other midfielders if he wants to play more.

“He has my confidence. He also knows exactly what he needs to fit perfectly into our style of play,” said the manager.

“He has everything a footballer needs. He has a fantastic dribble and can play under pressure. With the ball at foot, he is better than many other players in Europe, especially in his age group.

“I don’t really understand the fuss… just have some patience. This is Bayern Munich, one of the biggest clubs in Europe with a very good selection. You have to be better than your competitors, I’m the last one who doesn’t pick his best players.”
