Joshua Zirkzee ‘better than Erling Haaland at almost everything’

Joshua Zirkzee has been highly praised by the Dutch press after scoring on his first start for Bologna at the weekend, being called “better than Erling Haaland at almost everything.”

Zirkzee joined the Italian club from Bayern Munich this summer for a free of around €8m after impressing in Belgium for Anderlecht last season.

The 21-year-old didn’t receive much playing time at the start of the season, either being brought off the bench or remaining on it for the first six matches after he joined.

The Dutchman was given a chance from the start against Napoli at the weekend though and took it, scoring to put them 1-0 up in a match they ultimately lost 3-2.

He also created chances for his team-mates in what was an impressive display, and Voetbal International journalist Süleyman Öztürk said afterwards that the striker is better than Europe’s top striker at the moment in the majority of areas and just needs to improve mentally.

“He is better than Erling Haaland at almost everything,” he said. “Only the monster in him is missing.”
