José Rodriguez leaves Union St Gilloise by mutual consent

Union St Gilloise have announced, in a short statement, that José Rodriguez has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Rodriguez only made 13 appearances since signing in the summer and struggled to break into the first XI.

The former Real Madrid, Galatasaray and Mainz midfielder joined in the summer from Maccabi Tel-Aviv for free. The midfielder has won trophies in almost every country he has played in, and should Union win the cup or the league this season he will be able to add another winners medal to his collection.

Due to their strong Europa League campaign, the side managed to get a bye to the next round and will not have to play this week. In the league, their most recent result was a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge away. The latter did play in Europe this week, losing 2-0 at home to Benfica. Despite a strong showing from Noa Lang, Club Brugge struggled to threaten and will now need a miracle to qualify for the next round.
