Jordan Henderson agrees deal to join Ajax after six months in Saudi Arabia

According to David Ornstein, Jordan Henderson has reached an agreement with Al Ettifaq to leave the Saudi Pro League Club after just six months. The England international is set to join Ajax on a permanent basis after agreeing a deal in principle.

Henderson is in the process of terminating his three-year deal with Al Ettifaq, which he signed last summer. Part of the ex-Liverpool midfielders plan when he first moved to the Middle East was to ‘help grow the game in another country, and grow the league into one of the best in the world.’ Now, the 33-year-old wants a quick route out, and Ajax are one of the first clubs to come calling.

In Saudi Arabia, Jordan Henderson was playing in front of less than 700 fans nearly every week. Al-Ettifaq have won just one of their last twelve matches and sit eighth in the Saudi Pro League table. They’re currently 28 points behind league leaders Al-Hilal.

Ajax are close to brining Jordan Henderson to Amsterdam, in what could prove to be a magnificent move for the Dutch giants. John Van ‘t Schip’s side are currently fifth in the Eredivisie table after a poor start to the season. Henderson’s experience could act as a huge boost in their push for European football.
