John van ‘t Schip reaches full agreement with Ajax to become interim manager until the end of the season

According to Voetbal International, John van ‘t Schip and Ajax have officially reached a full agreement. The 59-year-old will become interim manager until the end of the season, succeeding Maurice Steijn. Van ‘t Schip will be presented as the new Ajax manager in the coming days.

Ajax are off to the worst start ever in a league season. On Sunday, the Dutch giants suffered their fifth defeat in eight Eredivisie matches, losing 5-2 to PSV. Hedwiges Maduro was in charge for that clash as well as last Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Brighton. Ajax are currently rock bottom of the table and their chances of dropping down to the Eerste Divisie are getting bigger each week.

Maurice Steijn was sacked as Ajax manager last week, following just four months at the club. Ever since the sacking, John Van ‘t Schip’s name has been hovering around Amsterdam and now a full agreement has been reached.

The former Ajax and Netherlands national team winger has previously managed Twente, Jong Ajax, Melbourne City, Chivas, PEC Zwolle and the Greece national team. Now, he’ll face his biggest challenge yet – keeping Ajax in the Eredivisie. Next up, Ajax take on their relegation rivals, FC Volendam.
