Johan Derksen tells Antwerp to sign Mohamed Ihattaren

Journalist and former footballer Johan Derksen thinks that Marc Overmars should bring Mohamed Ihattaren to Antwerp.

Ihattaren is set to return to Juventus in January after Ajax announced that they wouldn’t be extending his loan or signing him permanently.

That announcement didn’t come as a surprise to anyone given that, getting involved with criminal gangs, he hasn’t played a single match this season and has only made the headlines for matters not relating to football.

In the eyes of many, the 20-year-old – who ignored offers of help from Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart – just doesn’t have the mentality to make it as a footballer, but Derksen thinks that Marc Overmars should give him one final chance, bringing him to Antwerp as he brought him to Ajax.

“The only possibility is: Overmars has to take him in and therefore get him out of his neighbourhood in Utrecht,” he said on Vandaag Inside.

“You have to take that boy into your home, then he can become worth a lot of money and become meaningful for Antwerp.

“People have gone to great lengths for Ihattaren, they are all disappointed. But he deserves one last chance because it pays off if it works.”
