Jong PSV striker understands why first team have signed veteran Perez instead of calling him up

As per Voetbal International, Jesper Uneken (20) holds no grudges with the bosses at PSV for signing free agent Lucas Pérez (36) instead of giving him a first-team opportunity. The young striker is now firmly focused on his minutes at Jong PSV.

Due to the long-term absence of Ricardo Pepi, PSV decided to sign Pérez until the end of the season. Uneken was honest about his chances with the Eindhoven club and welcomed the new signing with a wealth of experience.

“I think everyone can assume that I will get more minutes here”, Uneken said after the Jong PSV – FC Dordrecht match to ESPN. “I trained with the first team for two and a half weeks and attended important matches, with the Champions League evenings as the highlight.”

“Ultimately, the choice was not for me, but PSV are also not in the best phase. Those are not easy moments to choose me. Now I am back with the Jong side and I have to show myself here. Ultimately, the management decides what is best for PSV. I can understand that they have brought in a striker and I do not want to compare myself with a striker who has played in La Liga. At my age, it is valuable to make minutes here and I think I can still learn a lot in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.”

Currently, Uneken is in his third season with Jong PSV. After 23 matches this term, he has scored eight goals – a tally he also reached last season.
