Jean Marcelin not thinking about future at Monaco ahead of Brugge derby

In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Cercle Brugge’s on loan central defender Jean Marcelin spoke of how he is not thinking too far into the future with regards to where he will play football next season. The 23-year-old defender from Reunion still has one year left on his deal with the Ligue 1 side. Since joining from Cercle’s parent club, the defender has made 12 appearances and provided one assist.

The former AJ Auxerre player said ‘It will be discussed in due course what will happen to me. Now only Cercle and the next match matter’. Marcelin joined Monaco in the January of 2020 for around €10m, before he was loaned out to Cercle for the 2020/2021 season. The former France U20 man then suffered an injury that put him out for almost all of the 2021/2022 season. He returned to Cercle for another spell having still yet to feature in the Monaco first team.

Cercle will face Club Brugge this weekend in the city derby. Club are coming off a 2-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League.
