Jay Gorter to start in goal for Ajax against PSV in Johan Cruijff Schaal

Jay Gorter will start in goal for Ajax against PSV in the Johan Cruijff Schaal, Alfred Schreuder has confirmed.

One big uncertainty at the Amsterdam club heading into the new season has been who will be the first-choice goalkeeper with Andre Onana leaving permanently.

With banned and Maarten Stekelenburg injured for most of last season, Remko Pasveer was more often than not between the posts with Gorter often playing for Jong Ajax.

The 22-year-old has played for the senior side for much of pre-season though, including in Tuesday’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk, and his manager has now confirmed that he’ll start against PSV on Saturday.

“We have three excellent goalkeepers,” Schreuder said at the press conference.

“Two somewhat older and one young goalkeeper with a lot of potential.

“It’s not that I already know who my first goalkeeper will be, but I can say that Jay will start tomorrow. He has recovered well from Tuesday. If there are no specifics, he is fit enough to start.”
