Jasper Cillessen ‘absolutely hates’ people saying he’s not a good team-mate

Following criticisms of his attitude by Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder, Jasper Cillessen has said he “absolutely hates” people accusing him of not being a good team-mate.

Van der Vaart said earlier this week that the goalkeeper can be a “nasty guy,” while Sneijder said he’s “very absent” and rarely interacts with team-mates.

While he hasn’t responded directly to those comments, Cillessen has said in an interview with VI that he hates it when people say he’s not a good team-mate.

“I don’t want people to be able to say about me that I’m working against someone. I absolutely hate that,” he said.

Many have suggested he doesn’t handle being a number two goalkeeper well, but he says he gets on well with main Netherlands competitor Remko Pasveer and is happy the Ajax man got the chance to play in the most recent Oranje matches.

“I think it’s fantastic for Remko, I really do,” he stated.

“He’s a great guy to work with. There is not really a goalkeeper’s battle internally, only in the media perhaps. We as keepers get along well.”
