Jason Denayer set to sign for Shabab Al Ahli

Jason Denayer is set to sign for Dubai side Shabab Al Ahli on a free transfer.

Denayer entered the summer as a free agent after his contract at Lyon expired and he didn’t sign for a new club before the start of the new season. He was linked with moves to Valencia and Wolves among others but never put pen to paper on a deal with either side.

It now looks like he’ll finally do so with Shabab Al Ahli, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the defender is flying to Dubai today to finalise terms and sign his contract.

That will be welcome news for Roberto Martinez, who selected Denayer in the Belgium squad for the last international break despite the fact that he wasn’t playing any club football.

However, the Spaniard may be disappointed that the 27-year-old has chosen to play in the Middle East rather than remain in Europe and compete at a higher level.

Nevertheless, as long as he stays fit, it’s now all but certain that he’ll be in the World Cup squad.
