Viralspor are reporting that Sint-Truiden’s Japanese international goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt is set to reject a move to Ankaragücü in favour of Club Brugge. There had been reports of an agreement between the Canaries goalkeeper and the Turkish side, but it now appears that that transfer is off.
While Club Brugge are certainly said to be looking for a new goalkeeper, there has not been many who have reported that Schmidt is the one they are targeting. Should the 31-year-old decide to move to Club Brugge, it is likely that he will play back-up to Simon Mignolet. since joining Sint-Truiden in the summer of 2019, the goalkeeper has made 110 appearances for the Limburg side.
One of Club’s young keepers, Senne Lammens, left the side this summer. Lammens had been a reported target of both Everton and Leeds during the 2022/2023 season, but has remained in Belgium and joined newly crowned Pro League champions Antwerp. He may well get a chance to play with Jean Butez linked to Nottingham Forest.
