Japanese defender set to join Kortrijk on loan after signing for Cardiff City

Wales Online is reporting that Ryotaro Tsunoda is set to join Kortrijk on loan for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old Japanese defender will first join Cardiff City on a permanent deal before then being loaned out to Kortrijk. With both clubs being owned by Vincent Tan, this was a deal that has been agreed for a few weeks now. However, Tan is still in the market for a buyer for his Belgian side, with a sale being desired for almost a year now.

Tsunoda, who has been capped at U20 level by Japan, will leave Yokohama F Marinos to come to Europe. The left-footed central defender played 51 games for the side since joining them in the summer of 2021, scoring one goal. Kortrijk have already signed one Japanese player this window, with senior Japanese international Haruya Fujii joining as well.

The Kerels are currently bottom of the table and in desperate need of reinforcements if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation to the Challenger Pro League.
