Jan Vertonghen returns for Anderlecht’s trip to London to face West Ham

Belgian international defender Jan Vertonghen has recovered from an illness which has seen him miss the last two matches for Anderlecht. As reported by Voetbalkrant, the experienced defender has travelled with the squad to London and will be available for their upcoming Europa Conference League tie with West Ham.

Vertonghen had to miss the home fixture against the Hammers in Brussels because of an illness, which also kept him out of the sides 3-1 victory over Mechelen at the weekend.

Vertonghen returns as pressure has been mounting for Felice Mazzu to drop fellow defender Wesley Hoedt, following a string of subpar performances. Mazzu substituted Hoedt at half time during the game against KV Mechelen, after the defender gave away a penalty.

While Vertonghen has returned to the side, Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, who also suffered an illness to keep him out of the game against Mechelen, has remained in Belgium. Young winger Julien Duranville has also not been able to travel to London due to a muscle injury he sustained in the weekends fixture.
