İstanbul Başakşehir 1 Gent 4 | Turkey gets a taste of Gift Orban’s brilliance

No one in Belgium can stop Gift Orban, and it seems that no one in Europe can stop him either. After four goals against Zulte Waregem at the weekend, the striker was at it again, scoring a hat-trick in the space of four minutes to punish İstanbul Başakşehir.

The sides were level going into the tie, having drawn 1-1. Gent seemed wary in the press before the game, keen to point out that the hosts would be the favourites. However, after under 40 minutes the Belgian side were in dreamland. Orban’s hat-trick was followed up by a great header from Hugo Cuypers, making it 4-0 to Gent and 5-1 to the Belgian side on aggregate. Orban’s second goal was a particularly good strike from long range.

The home side rallied in the second half, but all they had to show for it was a late Adnan Januzaj goal. Gent saw the game out with a 4-1 victory on the night, one of the best European performances from the side in recent history. Their fans will hope that this will give them momentum going into the weekend’s match with relegation threatened Eupen. In Orban, they have the most inform striker in Europe. Over his past four games the striker has scored an incredible nine goals.
