Islam Slimani hopes to stay at Anderlecht beyond the end of the season

After his debut against Oostende, Islam Slimani spoke of his desire to remain with Anderlecht beyond the end of the current season. As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, the striker spoke of how the club were still the biggest in Belgium and he was hoping that he could impress enough to remain for longer.

Slimani joined the Mauves on deadline day as a replacement for Fabio Silva, who left to join PSV. Silva, who was on loan from Wolves, had been the sides top scorer but after a disagreement with Brian Riemer he was recalled by the English side and then sent across the border to the Netherlands.

Slimani was involved in the second goal, which saw Anders Dreyer, another winter signing, get his first goal for the club. However, it was a young player in goal who was the decisive factor. Bart Verbruggen, who recently replaced Hendrik van Crombrugge as the teams number one, made a number of important saves to keep the score at 1-0. This then allowed Anderlecht to catch Oostende on the break and kill the game off.
