Ten games, ten wins, can anyone stop PSV? The side have been on a tear to start the Eredivisie season so far, with 35 goals scored and just six conceded. The side grabbed their 10th win in a row with a 6-0 hammering of PEC Zwolle on Saturday evening. With the Eindhoven side looking so imperious, is it already time to start considering the prospect of an unbeaten season?
Last season the side grabbed 91 points, the second most in Eredivisie history. They lost just once, on the 30th of March away to NEC Nijmegen. Only Ajax have gone unbeaten in a single season in Dutch football. They did this in 1918-1919 under a different format which included regional football. Then, much later on, during the 1994-1995 season the side won 27 and drew seven as they went unbeaten to win the Dutch first tier. They also won the Champions League that season without losing a single game.
PSV cannot match that feat in Europe, having already lost away to Juventus. However, they look deep enough to have a real crack at an unbeaten Eredivisie season. They have a big test in a resurgent Ajax side next weekend, who will certainly be hoping to ensure they remain the only side in Dutch top flight history with an unbeaten season.
