Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was full of praise for Frenkie De Jong after the footballing spectacle that took place in San Siro on Tuesday night.
While the Nerazzurri and the Blaugrana seemed to be equals, Davide Frattesiโs extra-time goal in the semi-final was enough to send the hosts into the coveted Champions League showpiece in Munich, where either PSG or Arsenal will join them.
After an exhausting second leg that ended 4-3 and made the aggregate 7-6, Inzaghi spoke of his admiration for the Barcelona ranks.
โA lot has been said about Lamine Yamal, but I have seen another extraordinary player in action,โ the manager told Sky Sport. โFrenkie de Jong impressed me just as much as Yamal. I would not want to trade any of my players, but De Jong was truly sensational in the two matches.โ
While the Oranje star was impressive, his feats in the centre werenโt enough to get Barca through. Speaking with Ziggo Sport, the former Ajax and Willem II man looked back at the enthralling clash.
โI am mostly very disappointed. It feels unfair to us, but I look at it from our side. I felt we were stronger, especially in the second half. But what Inter does, they do really well.
โWe get back into the game and make it 2-3 just before the end. Then you think itโs going to go our way. Iโm still dealing with that Ajax semi-final (defeat against Tottenham in 2019) and that will always be the case. In two days weโll probably get back on our feet again.โ
