Gent recently announced a loss of over 6 million euros for the 2021-2022 season. This, on top of previous seasons losses, has the club at a loss of just under 14 million over three seasons according to Voetbalkrant. Income from transfers this current season are also less than those that have gone out, meaning the Buffaloes are set for another loss making season.
The club are reportedly looking for investors to help stem the flow, but the current implications could be that some of the bigger earners in the squad will either not be offered new deals, or be offered extensions on lower wages than their current contracts. The players concerend are Sven Kums, Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui, all of whom are in their 30’s.
Gent are currently sitting in fifth place, just three points behind Club Brugge in the final play-off one spot. They are also through to the next round of the Europa Conference league where they will face Qarabag.
