Increasingly likely that Barcelona’s Memphis Depay will join Juventus on free transfer

It is looking increasingly likely that Memphis Depay will join Juventus on a free transfer, with the Dutchman and Barcelona negotiating free agency and the Italian club interested.

With Barcelona having financial problems as well as a surplus of attackers following the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, they’re keen to offload Memphis who would be willing to leave to be a more important player at another top club.

Initially, they wanted to sell him for €20 million, but in the past week it has emerged that they’re willing to let him go for free, with negotiations starting between the player and the club about terminating his contract.

Juventus have been an interested party all summer and according to Fabrizio Romano, that remains the case.

The journalist has also stated that Memphis will only accept free agency if an offer is received from a major club, so the fact that such a deal is being negotiated suggests that the interest is very much concrete.

With further reports emerging from Italy and Spain that the Old Lady have made him their priority after failing to sign Alvaro Morata, it seems more and more likely that will be his next club.
