According to Voetbal International, if Igor Paixão’s transfer to Olympique Marseille goes through, it will be one for the French history books.
The Feyenoord winger is well on his way to the French giants for what looks like their record highest transfer fee. French newspaper L’Équipe delved into Marseille’s transfer history, revealing that Paixão’s transfer is a record-breaking move, both in terms of the initial fee and the total amount.
The fixed fee is reportedly €30 million, while there will be an additional €5 million in bonuses. The record signing based on the starting fee was Dimitri Payet in 2017, when he joined from West Ham United for €29 million, plus €1 million in bonuses. Marseille’s largest total was on Braga’s Vitinha. The striker was acquired in January 2023 for €32 million (€25 million, plus €7 million).
The other players in the top five are Mason Greenwood and Elye Wahi. The first was signed from Manchester United a year ago for €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses, while Wahi was acquired from RC Lens in the same packaged amount.
Marseille’s move for Paixão is just shy of Feyenoord’s most expensive outgoing transfer in Santiago Gimenez. The Mexican striker joined AC Milan for €35 million, including bonuses. It’s set to be a striking return for the Rotterdam club, who previously paid just €4.5 million for Paixão when he signed from Coritiba in 2022.
