It was another disappointing performance from Belgium in World Cup qualification away to Kazakhstan. The side went behind early and ended up drawing the game 1-1 despite playing with a man advantage for the final 10 minutes or so. Club Brugge talisman Hans Vanaken got Belgium back into the game shortly into the second-half, but they were unable to find a victory. The side should still make it to the World Cup and will just need to ensure they beat Lichtenstein next week.
As reported by HLN, Jeremy Doku did not hold back when speaking to the press after the game. Belgium were without key players like Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Cortois and Romelu Lukaku, but Doku didnโt want to use that as an excuse for the draw. The Manchester City winger said โNo De Bruyne, Lukaku, or Courtois? If we need them to win these matches, we have no business being at the World Cupโ.
Doku clearly has a point. Belgium are certainly not the force they were with the golden generation of the previous decade, but there is enough talent in the current side to overcome a Kazakhstan team that had only picked up seven points in qualification so far. Doku should qualify with Belgium for the World Cup, but how much of an impact they will have on the tournament looks, at the moment at least, to be limited. They were poor at the most recent World Cup in Qatar and were just as disappointing at the recent Euros. It is safe to say that there are little expectations that Doku and co will do much next summer.
