‘I need a new team’: Standard Liege given another transfer ban as head coach Ivan Leko looks ahead to crucial summer window

Ivan Leko has been speaking to the media ahead of the sides clash with Westerlo on Friday. Unfortunately, there was little talk about the match as the situation at the club continues to deteriorate. The head coach was talking about the needs for next season as it was revealed that the side are being put under yet another transfer ban. Leko, knowing that most of the players currently in the squad are departing, was reported to have said ‘I need a new team’.

The former Antwerp and Club Brugge head coach is not wrong. Many of the sides key players are either on loan or have their contracts up in the summer. With little indication that there will be a significant amount of money to play with in the summer, it is unlikely that many will be returning. One loanee has already returned to their parent club, with Steven Alzate cutting his second spell short before the season has concluded.

777 Partners are coming under increasing pressure from a passionate fan base who have had enough of a disappointing season with plenty of off field turmoil.
