Mees Hilgers will play for FC Twente for at least another six months. Ending recent rumours, a departure for the 24-year-old defender is definitely off the table, technical director Jan Streuer confirmed to TC Tubantia.
Hilgers clearly looked to move away from Enschede this summer and saw a move to Stade Brest fall through. His arrival was also briefly discussed at Go Ahead Eagles, according to RTV Oost. Ultimately, however, the right-footed defender will remain with FC Twente, Streuer confirms.
Itโs reportedly still unclear whether Hilgers will extend his expiring contract with the Tukkers. He hasnโt been included in the squad this season due to the aforementioned transfer issues. He may return to the squad for Saturdayโs home match against NAC Breda. Another defender, Israeli Stav Lemkin, suffered an injury during the international break.
