Heracles confirm signing of Sava Cestic from Rijeka

Heracles have confirmed the signing of Serbian international Sava Cestic on a three-and-a-half year contract.

German-born Cestic joins from Croatian side Rijeka after a short spell at the club from Cologne. The defender joined the Croatian side back in January having made 11 league appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The transfer negotiation has been going on for some time but now Cestic has gone on record to say he is delighted to join the Eredivisie side and is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Cestic said: “I have been in contact with Heracles Almelo for some time and I am happy to be here now. The Netherlands is a country that attracts me because of both the people and the football played here. I hope to have a great time with all the people here in Almelo.”

The signing has been described as a “godsend” too by technical director Nico Jan Hoogma who said Heracles has been monitoring the young defender closely for the last three years.

“Sava is a godsend that has come along now and I am happy that we have been able to secure his arrival,” he said.

“From 2019 he will be on our scouting radar and we will keep an eye on his development. He made his debut with FC Koln in the Bundesliga and also already made his debut for the Serbian national team in matches against Jamaica and Japan. Sava is a young player with a lot of potential and already has the necessary experience.”

Heracles currently sit top of the Eerste Divisie with a five-point lead.
