Heracles Almelo have signed Mats Rots (18) on loan from FC Twente for the rest of the season. The arrival of the teenage defender comes at just the right time for the Eredivisie strugglers after the departure of Ruben Roosken to Huddersfield Town.
Rots, the younger brother of Daan Rots, will have to compete with Lorenzo Milani at left-back. He was previously part of the joint youth academy of FC Twente and Heracles.
The defender, born in Groenlo, has not yet played in the Eredivisie this season; he did, however, participate in FC Twente’s KNVB Cup match against VV Katwijk and in one of the Champions League preliminary round matches against Red Bull Salzburg.
Rots, whose contract in Enschede runs until mid-2027 – is Heracles’ first winter reinforcement. Erwin van de Looi’s team sit just above the relegation zone in the Eredivisie.
