Helmond Sport: The badge doesn’t just sit heavy on the chest

Since their very foundation in 1976 second-tier Helmond Sport have played all of their home games in the De Braak Stadium. However, with a move set to be completed in March, the Noord-Brabantse said their farewells on Monday night, although not in entirely routine fashion.

Shortly after their last home match in against FC Emmen (a 2-1 defeat), the club logo was supposed to be cut off just outside the field and presented to the fans before presumably being taken to the new ground. However, this proved to be more of a difficult task than expected, as fifteen minutes passed before the crest was completely hacked out with Stanley knives.

Although the intention was for a group of children to present the logo to the home supporters, the piece of artificial grass turned out to be so heavy that a stretcher had to be used to move it. Even with said stretcher, moving it was difficult, and the expected parade to the fanatics was eventually cancelled.

Helmond Sport are now set to play their first match in the new GS Staalwerken Stadium against MVV Maastricht on the 7th of March.
