Hein Vanhaezebrouck reveals he wanted Gift Orban on free-kicks for a while after strike against Zulte Waregem

Speaking after their 6-2 win over Zulte Waregem, Gent head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck spoke about Gift Orbans goal direct from a free-kick. The striker had not taken a set piece for the club yet, with regular takers Sven Kums and Alessio Castro-Montes ahead of him in the pecking order. However, Vanhaezebrouck revealed he had wanted to see Orban given the chance for a number of weeks.

As reported by Voetbalkrant, Vanhaezebrouck said ‘I’ve been saying for three weeks that Gift should kick them, but we have other specialists who thought it wasn’t up to Orban yet . Now they’ve finally let him’.

This was just one of the four goals that the striker scored at the weekend as he continues to impress since joining from the Norwegian second tier in the winter transfer window.

Orban has now scored an impressive seven goals in just five league matches, with another goal in the Conference League as well. At just 20-years-old, Orban is making a name for himself and Gent will certainly be hearing from other clubs in the summer who want to be part of the strikers rise to the top.

Speaking about taking free-kicks going forward, the Nigerian striker said ‘I think I’m going to be allowed to take them now’
