Heerenveen loan out summer signing following underwhelming start

SC Heerenveen have loaned Danilo Al-Saed to AIK Stockholm for the rest of the season. The winger was brought in last summer with high expectations but has failed to make an impact at the Abe Lenstra Stadium.

Swedish-born Iraqi international Al-Saed was acquired by Heerenveen from Norwegian Sandefjord last June following 12 goals in 36 Eliteserien league games. On his arrival, the Friesian club said:

“We have often said that Heerenveen should have artists on the wings. We think that Danilo, who can play on both flanks, fits this profile well. He can pass opponents with his dribbles, but his speed is also a weapon.”

Half a season later, the Iraqi’s impact appears to have been disappointing. In eight official matches, the winger failed to score or register an assist. Upon the 25-year-old’s loan to AIK, the Heerenveen general manager Ferry de Haan summed up the move:

“For both Danilo and Heerenveen, the collaboration has not yet yielded what we had hoped for. We therefore think it is a good idea to loan him out so that he can get more playing time elsewhere. We wish Danilo much success in Sweden for the coming six months.”
