Cédric Hatenboer has made a great first impression at his new employer in Belgium, but the midfielder could easily have played for PSV. In an interview with VI after his departure from Excelsior, he explained why he chose Anderlecht and turned down PSV.
Considering PSV’s Eredivisie-winning exploits last term, it was quite a coup that the 20-year-old ball-player ended up in Brussels. The midfielder quickly settled the score.
“I would have liked to go to PSV. They gave insight into their plans, were seriously interested, but in the end, it took too long.
“Anderlecht were more decisive, the feeling at that club was good, and the story sounded fine. They wanted to make a new start with young players and came up with an excellent proposal.”
Hatenboer, who was given the number 8 shirt in Belgium, will soon return to the Netherlands as Anderlecht face FC Dordrecht in a practice match in Zeeland on 12 July. The player’s official debut may follow on 24 July, when Anderlecht plays against BK Häcken from Sweden or Spartak Trnava from Slovakia in the second preliminary round of the Europa League.
