Halil Akbunar being chased by Galatasaray ahead of January transfer window

Westerlo’s summer acquisition from Goztepe, Halil Akbunar, is reportedly being chased by Turkish giants Galatasaray. As reported by Voetbalkrant, the Turkish side are just one of a number of clubs interested in the winger.

Akbunar was a shining light for Goztepe in the 2020-2021 season, grabbing 9 goals and 11 assists and getting a call up to the national team in the process. He followed this up with four goals and four assists in the 2021-2022 season as the side were relegated. Akbunar then joined Westerlo in the summer of 2022.

The 29 year-old winger struggled with injury to start the season, but has since broken through into the side to become a regular starter. He has scored once and provided two assists for the newly promoted side.

After the first half of the season, the Turkish owned side are sitting in 6th place with 26 points from their 17 games. Westerlo have scored 34 goals, the same amount as defending Champions Club Brugge, who they beat 2-0 away from home back in October.
