Ajax and Gladbach agree: Itakura moves to Amsterdam

As per Voetbal International journalists, Lentin Goodijk and Tim van Duijn, Ajax and Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ko Itakura. The 28-year-old Japanese defender will sign a multi-year contract in Amsterdam.

Ajax had reached a personal agreement with Itakura for some time, having been in talks with the defender for months. While he was enthusiastic about the move to the Johan Cruyff Arena, an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach took a little longer.

Itakura had one year remaining on his Gladbach deal, yet the Bundesliga side weren’t prepared to let him go easily. After the first bid for Itakura was rejected, Ajax had to go back to the drawing board.

The sales of Jorrel Hato and Chuba Akpom freed up some more funds, and now the Amsterdam club look set to land their man for around 10 million euros, which could increase further through bonuses.
