Feyenoord disagree with Givairo Read’s Champions League suspension and seem set to appeal

As per RTV Rijnmond and VoetbalPrimeur, Feyenoord look set to appeal Givairo Read’s Champions League suspension. An official punishment is not yet known.

The incident surrounding Read happened after the second-leg 1-1 draw with AC Milan that saw the Rotterdam club progress to the last 16 with a 2-1 aggregate. A scuffle broke out after the final whistle, tensions boiled over, and Read was involved.

The young wing-back received a red card in the melee, while Rafael Leão of AC Milan received a yellow. According to trainer Pascal Bosschaart, the 18-year-old received a red because he shot a ball at the Portuguese after the final whistle.

Read himself has not yet responded to the incident. UEFA has also not yet issued an official suspension. However, Feyenoord’s position is clear: the Rotterdam team will not agree to a suspension in any way. Feyenoord will face Inter or Arsenal in the next round of the Champions League.

For Feyenoord, Read’s absence in the round of 16 would be a major blow. Not only due to the teen’s tenacious performances, but also due to serious injuries. The Rotterdam team are no longer be able to count on Jordan Lotomba and Bart Nieuwkoop, the other right-backs in the selection.

Read’s absence in the round of 16 of the Champions League would mean that there will be no out-and-out right back left for those matches.
