Ghanaian international Elisha Owusu joins Auxerre from Gent

Auxerre have announced the signing of Ghanaian international Elisha Owusu on a two and a half year deal. Owusu leaves Gent for the Ligue 1 side who are currently 19th in the table. The 25 year-old made 9 appearances for the Buffaloes but fell down the pecking order behind the returning Julian De Sart.

Owusu returns to France, having left in 2019 to join Gent from Lyon. During his time in Belgium he became a full Ghana international, winning three caps and being called up to the 2022 World Cup squad. The midfielder made 126 appearances Gent, but remarkably failed to score or provide an assist in that time.

Owusu is the second player to leave Gent during the transfer window, with defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen departing for Mainz a few days ago.

Gent are said to be interested in RB Salzburg’s Kamil Piatkowski as a replacement for the departing Hanche-Olsen, with the Polish defender struggling for game time in Austria.
