In an interview with HLN, Gent’s emerging teenage star Malick Fofana has revealed that his friends and coaches have compared him to Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku. The 18-year-old has forced his way into Gent’s first team as a regular starter this season, starting six of his nine appearances with one goal scored. He has also been included in Belgium’s U21 squad.
Fofana made his debut during the 2021/2022 season in the Belgian super Cup, before going on to make 22 league appearances last season. Most of these appearances were from the bench, although he did start four Europa Conference League matches. The young winger has been compared to Doku because of his turn of pace and dribbling ability. Fofana said ‘My friends and teammates compare me to Jérémy Doku. A player I look up to. His trajectory is incredible’.
Gent are currently third in the league, having not lost a single game. They have won five and drawn five so far, with a trip to Cercle Brugge coming up after the international break.
