Gent’s Julien De Sart agrees contract until 2026

Gent’s 28-year-old central midfielder Julien De Sart has agreed a new contract until 2026. The former Kortrijk, Derby, Middlesbrough and Standard Liege midfielder current deal was set to expire in 2024. De Sart joined Gent in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer after his Kortrijk contract ran out.

De Sart graduated from the Standard academy and played 73 times for the club, scoring three goals and providing eight assists. His impressive displays for the Liege side saw Middlesbrough pay a few million euros to bring him to England, where he only managed three appearances. After another chance with Derby, where again he was limited to just 11 appearances, De Sart returned to Belgium and joined Zulte Waregem. 40 games for Zulte Waregem later he then joined their rivals Kortrijk, going on to make 91 appearances for the Kerels and scoring 11 goals alongside 11 assists.

Since joining Gent the 28-year-old has made 79 appearances in two seasons, despite suffering with injury during his time with the Buffaloes. He has scored 10 goals and is now one of the first choice midfielders at the club. While De Sart has agreed a new deal, central defender Michael Ngadeu may be set to end his early to move to China. The Cameroonian defender’s current deal expires in 2023.
